Bellydancing!

(image from rashenkoti's myspace page)

Through Ladyfest I also had the opportunity to try out Tribal Bellydance, which was so enjoyable and challenging! I am still feeling it in my arms and shoulders, hips and thighs, though not (somewhat surprisingly, you may think) in the belly. Taught by the engaging Marius Griffin, this was a fantastic workout for the body and mind; contrary to what you might assume, this form of dance is all about empowerment of women and creating community. I loved the way she explained how the general stance communicates confidence as well as her personal history with dance. I would just love to take the beginner's course starting in the next week I believe, however I'm leaving first week of June so wouldn't be able to complete the course; it will have to wait till I return. In any case, I highly recommend! My friends Milene, Maude and Linda also loved it so if you don't want to take my word for it, take theirs!
Final note, if you don't fancy classes but would like to see a performance, NEXT WEEKEND they are having a big benefit show, proceeds going to fight breast cancer. For more info email: corktribaldance@gmail.com
