Blown Away

Katie sent me over a link yesterday to the gorgeous work of Zoe Bradley. Right up my alley; she combines two of my great loves: costume design and paper sculpture. Look at this amazing silhouette she created using paper. I am always impressed by the way some artists can cause you to feel movement and life through something which is not actually moving.

Although he was more than likely speaking of his mobiles, this image makes me think of the Alexander Calder quote: "It whirls, it whirls!"

Incidentally, he had a crush on my grandmother when they were quite young. She, also an artist, called him Sandy and wrote in her diary about him. "Sandy tried to kiss me today. What kind of a girl does he think I am?!" Hopefully she isn't turning over in her grave at this revelation on the word wide web. Oh the things I wish I could ask her about her life and her art!
